Mechanical thrombectomy

Every minute that an acute ischemic stroke goes untreated, up to 1.9 million neurons in the brain are lost. Therefore, individuals experiencing sudden onset of stroke symptoms should promptly seek medical attention at the nearest Accident and Emergency Department to ensure timely and appropriate treatment within the critical treatment window.

Mechanical thrombectomy is one of the treatments for acute ischaemic stroke. During mechanical thrombectomy, the blood clot that blocks the arteries in the brain is removed to restore blood flow. This prevents further damage to brain cells and minimises the chance of disability and death after stroke.
